Vice President of Real Estate
Mr. John D. Potter has over 18 years of commercial real estate experience specializing in development and brokerage. A graduate of the University of Kentucky, John is a licensed real estate principal broker in the states of Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and served on the 2013 Tennessee/Kentucky ICSC Planning Committee. Over the past seven years, John has successfully developed over 65 properties in excess of $150,000,000 for retailers including McDonald’s, Family Dollar, and 7-Eleven. In his role as Vice President of Real Estate, John is responsible for the creation and implementation of a build-to-suit and development program for national retailers.
Mr. Potter began his career in 1998 as a real estate agent with Lane Consultants, Inc. in Lexington, Kentucky. In 2001, he joined CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) in Orlando, Florida as a retail broker. During his tenure at CBRE, he represented retail and development clients including Quizno’s, Taco Bell, Bob Evans Restaurants, and Regency Centers. He assisted with site selection, purchase, and lease negotiations.
From 2005 to 2009, John was President of Potter Commercial Group, Inc., a commercial real estate firm joint venturing with Colonial Properties Trust. During this time, he was successful in completing the Gatlin Commons Retail Development in Port St Lucie, Florida; anchored by Wal-Mart Supercenter & Sam’s Club. The project consisted of seven out-parcels including: McDonald’s, Bank of America, Ruby Tuesday’s, Tire Kingdom, and Washington Mutual. From 2009 to 2014, Mr. Potter was affiliated with a national development company. During this time, he procured and obtained 66 single tenant build-to-suit projects, while at the same time, overseeing construction budgets, legal documentation, and an overall marketing package for each project. He worked closely with Family Dollar among others. He actively participated with project managers, engineers, and consultants in all aspects of the construction process from site plan design and permitting to obtaining approvals from various municipalities and governmental agencies.
